Sleeveprint: Fighting for Freedom South-East Asia 1940-45
In September 1940 Imperial Japan invaded French Indochina and the South-East Asia campaign of World War Two commenced, ending on VJ Day 15 August 1945. Battles raged across Hong Kong and mainland China, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaya and Burma on the border with India.
Our design features a version of the shoulder-flash of the 'Chindits'. This was a British-Indian special forces unit equipped for jungle warfare, originally and most famously commanded by Orde Wingate. They fought behind enemy Japanese lines in the jungles of Burma 1943-44. An indication of their bravery is the award of no less than four Victoria Crosses to those who served in the unit.
