Footballers Battalion t-shirt

Footballers Battalion t-shirt

Formed by volunteers in December 1914, at the start of the First World War, the Footballers' Battalion, aka 17th Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment, was made up largely of professional and amateur players.

The battalion saw action at Loos, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, Arras. Cambrai and elswhere. When not at the front the battalion's team played as much football as possible, including winning the British Expeditionary Force version of the FA Cup.

Our design combines the battalion's distinctive cap badge with a full list in chronological order of the players from the battalion who lost their lives in action, with their rank and their respective clubs. A powerful memory of an epic historical and footballing moment.
